MCC humble Nottinghamshire in Abu Dhabi

MCC registered a huge 174-run win over Nottinghamshire inside three days in the Champion County match at Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Rahul Dravid, who was unbeaten on 81 overnight, went on to get a well-earned century as MCC were bowled out for 357 in their second innings giving Nottinghamshire a huge 469-run target to chase.

For the county champions, the nightmare continued in the second innings as they were reduced to 21 for four.

MCC did not miss the services of Stephen Kirby as Afghanistan’s Hamid Hassan scalped two wickets while Toby Roland-Jones took one as Nottinghamshire were headed towards another batting collapse.

But four half centuries from Paul Franks, Steven Mullaney, Ali Brown and Chris Read provided some respect to the score.

Alistair Brown and Chris Read began the revival sharing a steady 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Roland-Jones picked up his second wicket to end Read’s resistance who made 51 with the help of seven boundaries and one six, while Brown (55) fell immediately after, trapped by Gary Keedy.

With six wickets down, MCC were eyeing an early finish but Mullaney and Franks provided some resistance as they milked 130 runs for the seventh wicket, but could only delay the inevitable.

Mullaney’s 62 had eight boundaries and Franks’ 75 off 146 balls included 11 fours.

Hassan and Roland-Jones finished with three wickets each while Keedy and Mohammad Nabi snared two each.
