Fortress Chepauk just can’t be breached this season .There were brief periods of concern on Wednesday evening, but by the end of it Chennai Super Kings showed they are really too good at home as they made it five-in-a-row and took their points tally to 12 – they had won an away match against Pune Warriors.
On Wednesday, it was all about reading the situation and playing according to that. Skipper MS Dhoni’s excellent handling of the bowling resources stifled Rajasthan Royals’ flow of runs after they had threatened to take the game away.
Dhoni bowled the spinners out at the right time and when Ross Taylor looked to take charge, he used his two pacers and stopped the Kiwi from employing his ferocious slog sweep.
148 was still a fighting total, but Suresh Raina (61 off 51 balls) and Mike Hussey (79 no off 55 balls) paced their innings superbly to take CSK through.
There was never a moment of chaos in the 137-run partnership as the two went about their job with surgical precision. They ran well between the wickets and pulled out the big shots just when necessary.
They picked on left-arm spinner Nayan Doshi in the 11th over when CSK needed about 7.5 every over. Hussey and Raina played two similar shots over midwicket and both went for over boundaries, bringing down the asking rate drastically.
Thereon, it was a cakewalk and CSK wrapped it up with eight balls to spare. Chennai Super Kings’ Suresh Raina plays a shot during his match-winning of 61 against Royals in Chennai on Wednesday.
