KATHMANDU, January 24:
Nepal ‘Blue’ defeated Nepal ‘Red’ by 1 wicket in a practice match played today at TU Ground as a preparation for ICC World Cup T20 Qualifier 2012 to be held in UAE on March.
Winning the toss, Nepal ‘Red’ put up a total of 109 runs losing 5 wickets in alloted 20 overs as they opted to bat first. Paresh Lohani and Anil Mandal opened for Nepal ‘Red’ but this pair could not perform well as Mandal was bowled by Krishna Karki in second ball off the second over. Lohani made 32 runs off 34 balls before departing at the team score of 51 runs in 9.1 overs. Lohani hit 5 fours. Mahesh chhetri put in the highest score 35 runs off 44 balls including 2 fours before being run out. Dipendra Chaudhary was caught by the keeper at the score of 9 runs. Gyanendra Malla was caught at 18 runs. Mahaboob Alam and Basant Regmi remained not out at 2 and 1 runs respectively.
Krishna Karki claimed 2 wickets. Shakti Gauchan and Amrit Bhattarai grabbed a wicket each for Nepal ‘Blue’.
In reply, Nepal ‘Blue’ chased the target in 19 overs in loss of 9 wickets. Subash Khakurel returned to the pavillion without opening the score in forth ball of the inning. Pradeep Airee and Naresh Budhayer put up the partnership of 33 runs before Budhayer was run out in 5.4 overs. Airee also went for run out by Mandal. Airee hit 2 fours while Budhayer hit 3 fours. Prithu Baskota got caught at 2 runs. Binod Bhandari scored 20 runs off 22 balls that included a four and a six. Paras Khadka top scored 25 runs off 27 deliveries including 2 fours. Shakti Gauchan made 12 runs while Fazlur Rehman and Rahul Vishwakarma scored 4 runs each. Krishna Karki reamained not out with a six off a single ball he played.
For Nepal ‘Red’, Basanta Regmi and Sanjam Regmi grabbed 2 wickets each while Binod Das and Mahaboob Alam shared a wicket each.
