WCLC closed camp set to start from June 10

Melbourne – National cricket team closed camp for the upcoming ICC World Cricket League Championship (WCLC) is set to start from June 10.

Earlier, ICC had sent a letter to the stakeholders and directed Bhawana Ghimire, the CEO of Cricket Association of Nepal to start the preparation for the upcoming Netherlands tour.

The two member selection committee comprising of Skipper Paras Khadka and Coach Jagat Tamata has named 24 players to the closed camp where 18 players, who were included in the two matches against Namibia in April 16 & 18 have retained their place.

Paras Khadka (C), Gyanendra Malla (VC), Sharad Vesawkar, Shakti Gauchan, Binod Bhandari, Sagar Pun, Basant Regmi, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Rajesh Pulami, Raju Rijal, Naresh Budhayair, Sushan Bhari and Sandeep Lamichhane.

Likewise, Bikram Sob, Dipendra Singh Airee, Prem Tamang and Anil Mandal were selected as the reserve players are also included.

“We are going to play in the seaming conditions for the away match and the focus will remain on the fast bowling”, Jagat Tamata, National team coach said.

“We have already played in Netherlands and looking at the conditions, we have added few options in the closed camp”, he further added.

The new list of players includes Lalit Singh Bhandari, Dipesh Shrestha, Nandan Yadav, Avinash Karn, Avinash Bohara, Aarif Sheikh and Sunil Dhamala.

Nepal are playing their fourth round of WCLC against Netherlands on August 13 and 15 in their backyard. They are currently sitting at sixth position with four points (2 wins) from six matches whereas Netherlands is currently sitting at the top of table with 10 points (4 wins) from six matches.

Nepal team will also play a friendly 50-over one-day match against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on July 19 at Lord’s ground. The game is organised to make the 200-year bilateral relationship between Nepal and the UK.

According to the sources, the squad for MCC game is unlikely to change from the team that played against Namibia on April 16 and 18.
