Nepal announces preliminary squad for Cricket World Cup Qualifier

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday unveiled the 22-man preliminary squad to participate in the Nepalese national cricket team’s closed camp for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Nepal is set to battle in the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe starting on June 18.

No new faces have been called for the camp; quite a familiar squad of ACC Premier Cup has been given a call. The final squad will be announced after a week-long closed camp.

Nepal is set to do their final preparation in South Africa, where they will face Scotland and Netherlands in warm-up matches (not ODI), whereas the South Africa A team is also being approached by CAN.

Nepal will then head to Zimbabwe for a much-anticipated tournament, where ten teams will battle for the remaining two spots in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The group stage is yet to be finalized by ICC.

The tournament is scheduled to take place between June 18th and July 9th. The top three teams from both groups will advance to the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, those teams will face each other, and the two teams with the highest rankings will proceed to the final. Both finalists will secure their spots in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

West Indies and Scotland have already announced their squad to feature in World Cup Qualifier.

Nepal’s preliminary squad: Rohit Paudel (C), Kushal Bhurtel, Asif Sheikh, Gyanendra Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bhim Sarki, Pratish GC, Lalit Rabanshi, Arjun Saud, Sundeep Jora, Dev Khanal, Kishore Mahato, Surya Tamang, Kamal Singh Airee, Shyam (Mousam) Dhakal and Avinash Bohara.
