Nepal calls up Subash Khakurel in the USA

Subash Khakurel has been roped in as a cover player in Nepal’s squad for the USA tour to face the USA and Oman. Both openers, Aasif Sheikh (WK) and Kushal Bhurtel have suffered injuries to their leg and are doubtful to be fit for the 1st match on 9th June.

Asif was injured in the first practice match against Nepali All-Stars and forced to retire out after the discomfort due to a leg injury. Kushal who was dismissed for a Royal Duck and 1 run respectively in the first and second practice match picked up a thigh injury while fielding. 

The team management has decided to call in Wicket Keeper batsman Subash Khakurel to the USA as a cover. As per the official statement from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) “Khakurel was part of the intra-squad practice matches played in Kathmandu during recent camp and his performance with both, bat and gloves, were satisfactory”.

Nepal’s experience campaigner, Khakurel has represented Nepal in 5 ODIs, 8 T20Is and 13 List A matches. The 34 years old, last played for Nepal in Tri-series against the USA and Oman itself at TU International Cricket Ground in 2020.

Nepal have already completed their practice matches before CWC League 2 fixtures against the USA and Oman. Nepali All-Stars stunned Nepal by 4 wickets in the first warm-up match whereas Houston Hurricane were defeated by 29 runs in the second clash.

(June 9) – Oman against Nepal
(June 11) – Nepal against the USA
(June 14) – Oman against Nepal
