Nepal defeats Oman in a record-breaking 50th ODI match

Nepal’s national cricket team registered a magnificent 84-run win over Oman in their 50th ODI match on Friday at TU Cricket Ground.

After posting the team’s highest ODI total in the first inning, Nepal restricted Oman to 226 in 46.3 overs to register a first win against Oman on the home ground.

Sandeep Lamichhane who broke Rashid Khan’s record for the fastest bowler to grab 100 ODI wickets was the pick of the bowlers for Nepal, grabbing three wickets. Karan KC also picked up three, whereas Dipendra Singh Airee pocketed two wickets. Lalit Rajbanshi picked up one but was the most economical bowler for the team.

Mohammad Nadeem scored the highest 65 runs for Oman. Sandeep Goud contributed 46, while Ayan Khan made 29 runs.

Earlier, Nepal scored their highest ODI total after being forced to bat first. The home side surpassed the previous best of 297 and posted 310 runs against Oman.

This is also the first instance Nepal has crossed the 300-run mark in ODI. Forced to bat first at TU Cricket Ground, Nepal were in deep trouble early on, losing both openers for a duck and conceding its fourth consecutive maiden over.

The first powerplay only produced 30 runs, however, Bhim Sharki (33) and Captain Rohit Paudel (23) put up a fight with a fifty-run partnership for the third wicket. Oman bowlers dismissed both in quick succession and Nepal were 72/4 in the 21st over.

Kushal Malla then counterattacked Oman bowlers with a quick 30-ball fifty and later scored a magnificent century. Completing his maiden ODI ton from 59 balls, Malla smacked nine fours and ten sixes. He was eventually sent back for 64-ball 108 runs. He was well supported at the other end by Aarif Sheikh (29) and managed a 75 runs partnership for the fifth wicket.

Nepal managed 188 runs in the second powerplay, losing four wickets. They reached 300 runs in 49.2 overs thanks to Sompal Kami’s blistering innings.

Kami scored his second ODI fifty to take his side to a better position. He scored 48-ball 63 with nine fours. Karan KC, towards the end, smacked electrifying 29 runs as Nepal finished 310 for 8 in their 50 overs.

For Oman, Ayan Khan picked up two wickets, whereas every other used bowler grabbed one each.
