Sandeep Lamichhane taken into custody

Sandeep Lamichhane, the suspended captain of the Nepali national cricket team, who was accused of rape, has been taken into custody by Nepal Police at Tribhuvan International Airport today.

Sandeep, 22, was arrested shortly after landing at 10 AM on Thursday. He was taken to Police Circle in Gaushala for further investigation.

“Lamichhane is now taken to police custody at Gaushala Police Circle as the victim girl lodged a complaint of rape there,” Dineshraj Mainali, Superintendent of Kathmandu Police said.

Just before being arrested, he wrote on Facebook that he would soon seek legal support against the wrongful prosecution and allegation made against him and he will get justice.

“I will fully cooperate in all stages of investigation and will fight legal battle to prove my innocence”, he further wrote.

Earlier, International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) issued a diffusion notice against the former Nepal national cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17 years old minor. As per the victim, the incident occurred on August 22, the day before the Nepal cricket team’s flight to Kenya. However, the police complaint was registered on September sixth.

It is also believed that Lamichhane will be taken to court on Sunday.
