Aasif and Arjun Saud’s record breaking partnership sink Kenya

After the T20I series win, Nepal defeated Kenya in the first One Day match to lead the 3-match series 1-0 in the absence of regular captain Sandeep Lamichhane. Opener Aasif Sheikh and Arjun Saud’s terrific batting display helped Nepal defeat the home side by 7 wickets at Gymkhana Club Ground.

Chasing an average total of 219 runs, Aasif-Arjun’s century stand for the first wicket put Nepal in a comfortable position. Collins Obuya broke the 141 runs partnership dismissing Arjun for 61 runs in the 32nd over. Aasif who scored a scintillating ton then added 57 more runs with Gyanendra Malla (24).

Aasif walked back for 110 runs hammering 12 fours and a couple of sixes. Dipendra Singh Airee’s quick 15 at the end saw visitors chase the total with 16 balls spare losing three wickets. Vishil Patel, Rakep Patel, and Collins Obuya took one wicket each for Kenya.

Earlier, Opting to bat first, Kenya were wrapped up for 218 runs after a brilliant bowling display from the Karan-Sompal duo. Despite losing the fourth wicket for just 49 runs, Collins Obuya (62) and Rakep Patel (67) shared 130 runs for the fifth wicket to lead the home team towards a fighting total. Irfan Karim and Sachin Bhudia also assisted 30 and 26 runs respectively. No other batters were able to put in a double-digit score for Kenya as they were bowled out in 48.1 overs.

Karan Kc and Sompal Kami picked up three wickets each for Nepal. Pawan Sarraf and Aadil Aalam also pocketed 1-1 wicket. 

The second One-day match will be played tomorrow (September 3) at the same venue. Rohit Paudel is leading Nepali side as regular captain Sandeep Lamichhane flies to the Caribbean for Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
