The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a cash reward of Nrs. one lakh each for the Nepali Under-19 players after sealing their spot in the upcoming U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

The Nepal U-19 team registered a miraculous win over UAE in the last match of the U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifier to seal the spot in the mega event after eight years.

Apart from this, according to the awards and honours policy, the players will get a cash prize of 3 lakh rupees each from the Government of Nepal.

The prime minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN UML’s president KP Sharma Oli also congratulated the youth team for their success.

Chasing a target of 192, UAE were in a comfortable position to win the match with just 11 runs required from the last three overs with three wickets in hand, however, Dipesh Kandel, the slow left-arm orthodox bowler, took a hattrick and secured an unlikely victory for Nepal.

Earlier, Skipper Dev Khanal scored a half-century, and Bishal Bikram KC and Uttam Thapamagar contributed 38 and 36 runs respectively, to guide Nepal towards a respectful total of 191.

The Nepalese youth team were unable to feature in the mega event since 2016. Nepal missed out on the 2020 edition after a painful one-run loss on the D/L method against UAE itself.
