Dassanayake to Return Admist Uncertainity

CricNepal- Pubudu Dassnayake is all set to return to Nepal on 28th August, but everything else except his arrival is as uncertain as it was when he left for Canada 2 months back.

Dassanayake undoubtedly the most successful coach in Nepali sports histroy had led Nepal Cricket team to their maiden World T20 berth and subsequent T20 International status in his 3 years stay at Nepal. After his contract expired on June 30, 2014  Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) had denied Dassanayake an extension to his contract owing to financial crunch. But Nepal government intervened and handed Dassnayake a year’s extension.

“CAN doesn’t appear to officially recognise my status(as coach). The Ministry has said I will be working under them but it will be impractical to by bypassing the cricket governing body”, Adarsh Dhakal quoted Dassanayke on The Kathmandu Post yesterday.

Although the coach is returning on 28th August, CAN has appointed Arun Aryal as Nepal’s coach for the Asian Games to be held in Korea from September 19th to October 4th.

“Dassnayake has to work under CAN for him to represent Nepal as a coach”, revealed a CAN related source to CricNepal

Coming here despite uncertainly Pubudu plans to first hold talks with all the stake holders-CAN,NSC and Ministry before taking the responsibility as a coach. ” If I feel it is going to be tough for me to work, I would gladly leave”, revealed the former Sri Lankan wicket keeper to Kathmandu Post.
