Goverment Honours Cricketers

CricNepal:The government has honored the Nepali cricket team which served spirited performance at World T20 in Bangladesh.

Nepal won two of its three matches in the tournament, first defeating Hong Kong by 69 runs and then beating arch rivals Afghanistan by 10 runs. Nepal’s spirited game was one of the highlights of the tournament. This success of Nepali cricketers is taken as the first biggest achievement of Nepal in the sports sector. 

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav  honored the team amidst a special programme at his residence on Monday with a cash prize of Rs. half a million each. 

Paras Khadka (captain), Gyanendra Malla, Subash Khakurel, Pradeep Airee, Sagar Pun, Sharad Vesawkar, Basanta Regmi, Rahul Viswakarma, Amrit Bhattarai, Abinash Karn, Shakti Gauchan, Sompal Kami, Naresh Budayer and Jitendra Mukhiya were part of the squad that represented Nepal in the world cup.

President Yadav pointed out that Nepal had the potential to be a cricketing hub in near future and advised the cabinet to focus on building cricketing infrastructures.

“We will separate sufficient  funds for cricket in this year’s budget”, said Youth and Sports Minister Purusottam Poudel as if replying to President’s advice.
