Jayasuriya and Mahanama confirms to play for World XI

Kathmandu – Retired International Cricketers from Sri Lanka – Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama have expressed their willingness to play the charity match against Nepal National team to raise fund for the victims of Nepal earthquake.

Malaysian Cricket Board (MCB) is organising a fundraising match between Nepal national team and World XI in Kinrara Oval, Malaysia. The date is yet to be announced but star cricketers are already supporting the event.

Jayasuriya announced his participation via his official twitter account.

“In my Cricket career that has spanned over 25 years as both a player (13 years) and as an ICC Elite Panel Match Referee (12 years), the have been a few occasions like this when the broader Cricket Community needs to come together.

This is the time especially for the past and present Players who command a strong public profile to raise awareness of the Nepal Earthquake Fundraising Match being held in Kinrara, Malaysia between Nepal Cricket team and the World XI. I am personally behind them and support this noble humanitarian cause wholeheartedly. I bat for this worthy cause.”, Roshan Mahanama told.

Jayasuriya has played 110 tests, 445 ODI matches and 31 T20Is while Mahanama played 52 tests and 213 ODIs before their retirement. Currently, Mahanama is serving in ICC as an Elite Panel Match Referee.

Similarly, Another Star Cricketer Mahela Jayawardene has also expressed his support for #BatforNepal project. “This is important, rebuilding Nepal is important.. Sad I will not be able to play in this game but I am for the project! I will be involved in the next game and in doing my bit to promote the cause. We all should Bat for Nepal”, Jayawardene told.
