Rohit, bowlers shine as Nepal clinch One Day series against Kenya

Nepal has clinched the One Day series against Kenya with a match to spare after defeating the home side in the second match of the series. The touring side stunned Kenya by 17 runs at Gymkhana Club Ground.

Chasing a decent total of 231 runs, the hosts were down to 39/4 within the ninth over after Sompal Kami’s electrifying opening spell.

Collins Obuya (37) and Rakep Patel once again hurt Nepal with an 81-run stand for the fifth wicket. Patel scored 81 runs with eight boundaries and one six before Dipendra Singh Airee sent him back. Airee picked up four wickets at the end to bowl out Kenya for 217 in 46.3 overs. Gerard Mwendwa also smacked quick 20 runs lately.

Sompal Kami grabbed three wickets for Nepal whereas Karan Kc, Pawan Sarraf, and Aadil Aalam pocketed one wicket each.

Earlier in the first inning, Nepal posted a decent total of 230 runs after opting to bat first. Skipper Rohit Paudel’s fine inning helped the visitors post a competitive total before being bowled out in 49.2 overs.

Despite losing opener Arjun Saud cheaply, Gyanendra Malla and Dev Khanal shared 56 runs for the second wicket to stabilise Nepal’s inning. Malla added 25 while Dev who came in for Aasif notched up 37 runs.

Rohit Paudel anchored the inning after the team lost a couple of wickets cheaply and were down to 85/4 in the 22nd over. Paudel, who scored 78 from 97 balls with seven boundaries was adjudged Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, Sompal Kami also smacked 15 balls-26 runs followed by a quick fire 11 from Karan KC towards the end.

For Kenya, Shem Ngoche, Vraj Patel, and Nehemiah Odhiambo picked up a couple of wickets each. Similarly, Rakep Patel, Lucas Olouch and Gerard Mwendwa also pocketed one each.
