Nepal qualified for ICC T20 World CUp 2014 to be held in Bangladesh as they defeated Hong Kong in a last ball thriller. Having participated in U19 World Cup over a dozen times, this is the first time the senior team qualified for World Cup. Nepal is the third team after Afghanistan and Ireland, who qualified as group winners, to qualify for the world cup.
“I think this is the biggest moment of our lives. We have worked so hard for this moment. Ever since we started playing Cricket it was a dream to play world cup” expressed very emotional Paras Khadka after qualification. Ending the sentence in ” I am lost for word” one could actually see him lost in the jubilant moment.
Nepal debuted in International Cricket in 1996 as a associate member, and after 17 years Nepal finally made it to the big league. Nepal will now compete in round one of the ICC T20 World Cup. Two teams from round one will enter super 10 and compete against top eight cricketing giants.
With this win Nepal books a semi-final berth and most importantly qualifies for the World Cup T20 qualifiers to be played next year. Absolute cracker of a match and you can’t expect more from a T20 match. Nepal will face Afghanistan in the semi final of the Tournament this Friday.
Although now into World Cup, Nepal is yet to defeat any team that it hadn’t defeated in previous edition of the tournament. The semi final and final of this tournament is ideal matches for that.
