Nepal Women fall short in close contest

The Nepalese Women’s Team suffered a back-to-back defeat in the preparatory series in Sri Lanka. This time they faced a narrow four-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka Development squad.

Opting to bat first, Nepal posted 106/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Kabita Kunwar top-scored with 29 runs from 34 balls. Captain Indu Barma scored 28 runs whilst Samjhana Khadka added 11 runs. Apart from these three top order batter, no one managed to cross double digit score. Rubina Chhetri (6), Kabita Joshi (4), Dolly Bhatta (1) failed to do any special.

In response, Sri Lanka Development squad completed the target with just one ball spare (19.5), losing six wickets. They needed 20 runs from the last two overs when Malki Madara smacked six-ball 16 to seal the victory. Openers Senarathne and Imika Mendis scored 27 and 17 runs respectively. Sandeepani also made 19 runs.

For Nepal, Kritika Marasini, Indu Barma, Kabita Joshi and Sabnam Rai grabbed one wicket each.

Nepalese side faced a 33-run defeat in the first practice match. Team Nepal will have various practice sessions at Colts and Moore for five days before playing the final T20 match on July 16.

The ACC Women’s Asia Cup starts on July 19 in Sri Lanka. Nepal is in Group A alongside India, Pakistan and UAE.
