Nepal Women register thumping 119-runs win over Qatar Women

Nepal women’s cricket team earned an empathic victory over Qatar Women in the first T20 Internationals of the ongoing 3-match bilateral series in Doha on Tuesday.

Putting in to bat, Nepal Women scored 146 runs losing four wickets in the first innings. Indu Barma scored her maiden WT20I fifty, becoming the first Nepali Women cricketer to score fifty in this format. Earlier, Sita Rana Magar hit 48 against Indonesia in 2019.

Barma came at the fall of the first wicket and put on 88 (61) runs with Sita Rana Magar. Sita Magar managed 39 runs from 33 balls, including five boundaries. Meanwhile, Indu continued her scoring and managed her maiden half-century in just 45 balls, including four boundaries. She was retired hurt, batting on 55(47).

Sarita Magar added run-a-ball 21 runs while Captain Rubina Chhetri did not trouble the scorer.

Nepal Women posted 146/4 in 20 overs, their highest T20I total, beating the previous highest of 126/5 against Malaysia in 2019.

Angeline Mare and Sabeeja Panayan managed one wicket each.

In reply, Qatar Women were restricted to 27 runs in 11.5 overs. Kabita Kunwar grabbed two wickets in the first over and the wickets continued to tumble and Rubina Chhetri finished the match, grabbing three wickets in an over.

In the middle overs, Sita Rana Magar clinched two wickets while Karuna Bhandari grabbed one.

Nepal Women registered the victory by 119 runs with eight overs to spare. This victory was their largest victory in WT20I by runs. The previous largest victory was against Indonesia by 92 runs in 2019 in Bangkok.

Nepal Women is currently in Doha to play three-match Twenty20 Internationals against the Qatar Women, organized by Qatar Cricket Association.
