Samsara Match Preview- Nepal eye second win

Kathmandu- Nepal U19 takes on Uganda U19 in the second match of the ICC U19 World Cup Qualifiers 2015, tomorrow at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. The match starts at 7:15 NST.

Big Picture
Nepal will march into tomorrow’s match with confidence after winning the first match against Papua New Guinea (PNG) by nine wickets with 245 balls remaining. Nepalese spinners were splendid in folding PNG to less than 50 runs. Opening batsman Sunil Dhamala, who opened the bowling with his right arm orthodox surprised everyone and took 5 wickets – the first and only five wicket haul of the tournament so far. Playing on team’s strength Nepal took full advantage of spin friendly Malaysian tracks and one can expect Nepal to do the same tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Uganda got thrashed by USA in their opening match by six wickets. Uganda only managed to put 167 runs on the board which USA chased easily. Kenneth Waiswa was the only positive prospect for Uganda. Batting at N0.8 he played promising innings of 38 not out runs. However, Uganda can’t be count off. They defeated strong Kenya U23 team 2- 1 in a three series on Kenyan soil before coming to Malaysia. They will look to bounce back against Nepal tomorrow.

Qualification : Uganda finished 2nd in the ICC Africa U-19 Championship held at Tanzania in February this year. Namibia topped the group to qualify for the U19 World Cup. Uganda have been traditionally been the third best team among African Associate behind Kenya and Namibia. In the regional qualifier they only bettered Kenya on Net Run Rate(NRR) to qualify for this tournament.

Uganda rely heavily on their bowling just like Nepal. They bundled the opponents for less than 80 runs thrice in the regional qualifiers – none of the African teams had scored more than 142 runs. Two of their bowler Wabwire and Okwalinga returned with figures of 7/11 and 7/14 against Botswana and Tanzania respectively. Uganda defended petty 95 runs against the mighty Kenyans. The batting however looks shabby – 168 being their highest in the ICC U-19 African Championship. They failed to chase targets of 140 or less twice in that event.
