Sandeep Lamichhane eyes world record in Nepal’s clash against South Africa

Sandeep Lamichhane has an opportunity to set a new world record during Nepal’s game against South Africa on Saturday, June 15. He has a good chance of matching the record held by Afghanistan’s star, Rashid Khan.

Lamichhane is all set to play for Nepal against South Africa in their third World Cup match. If Nepal’s star leggies manage to pick up a couple of wickets in that game then he will join Rashid Khan at the top of the list of ‘fastest bowlers to reach 100 T20I wickets’.

Sandeep Lamichhane has 98 T20I wickets in 52 matches, just two short of a significant milestone. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan currently holds the record for the fastest to 100 wickets, achieving it in 53 matches. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Pakistan’s Haris Rauf are second and third, having reached the milestone in 63 and 71 matches, respectively.

Lamichhane also surpassed Rashid Khan’s record in ODIs to become the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets, achieving this milestone in 42 games compared to Rashid’s 44.

Sandeep missed the fixtures in the USA due to a visa denial. However, he is already in the Caribbean and is set to play further matches. Nepal faced a narrow defeat against the Netherlands whilst the second match against Sri Lanka was washed out due to rain.
