Shahid Afridi: I will try my level best to entertain the people of Nepal

Social media on Monday erupted after the announcement of Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Shahid Afridi’s participation in the fourth edition of Everest Premier League, Nepal’s biggest domestic Twenty20 tournament.

Shahid Afridi will represent the Kathmandu Kings XI team along with Nepal’s star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane for this year’s EPL which will run from September 25 to October 9 at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.

“This will be my first visit to Kathmandu and I am very excited and looking forward to visiting,” Afridi said in a video message, during the launch ceremony organized by the Kings XI management team in Kathmandu.

Afridi was asked by the media on how many sixes he was going to hit in the tournament. “That depends on the bowling on the day, but I will try my level best to entertain the people of Nepal,” he replied.

Lamichanne was also excited about the announcement and welcomed Shahid Afridi in a video message. “All the boys are really excited to see you here on the field. And I personally know you are going to have a great time during your visit to Nepal. Can’t wait to see you joining the team,” Sandeep said.

The duo played together for the ICC World XI team that took on World Champion West Indies in a hurricane relief exhibition match at Lord’s on 31 May 2018. Lamichanne made his international T20 debut and Afridi was captaining the side.
