Shubman Gill becomes the youngest batter to score ODI double ton

Shubman Gill has written his name in the history book, becoming the youngest-ever batter (23 years 132 days) to score the ODI double hundred. He surpassed his fellow Indian, Ishan Kishan, who hammered 210 against Bangladesh on December 2022.

Gill becomes the fifth Indian and eighth overall batter to smack a double ton in ODI cricket. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman, and Ishan Kishan had scored a 200 in ODI cricket.

Opting to bat first, Gill’s 208 runs helped India rack up 349 runs against New Zealand in the first ODI at Hyderabad. This is the lowest total in ODI when a batter has completed a double century. Rohit’s 34 was the second-highest score after Gill’s sensational knock.

Gill notched up 19 fours and nine sixes in his 149-ball knock. He was given a second life after Shardul Thakur sacrificed his wicket for in-form Gill.

Gill also completed 1000 runs in ODI, becoming the fastest Indian to do so and the joint-second highest overall. Gill took 19 innings to reach the landmark, while the best is by Fakhar Zaman (18 innings).
