U-16 team ready to kick on despite poor preparation

Kathmandu – Lack of good preparation, poor selection, lack of match exposure and lack of good cricketing environment has always been the story of Nepali cricket though it be at the senior level or at the junior level. In a similar fashion, this time too, CAN and Nepal Sports Council bade farewell to the U-16 cricket team that will participate in the ACC U-16 Premier league scheduled from August 14-20 in Malaysia.

In recent years, due to the high performance of senior cricket team CAN has been often criticized for not giving attention to junior cricket. Due to which Nepal once known as the powerhouse in age-group cricket is losing its glory. Last year final defeat against Malaysia in the ACC U-16 championship and the U-19 losing its spot in the U-19 World Cup can be taken as examples.

Putting these drawbacks behind, Nepal’s coach Basanta Sahi is hopeful of Nepal winning the tournament. “At this level each and every team are same. We will try our best to win the tournament”, said Sahi.

Nepal start their campaign with a game against Thailand at the Selangor Turf Club ground tomorrow.
