Binod Bhandari and Hashmatullah Shahidi shine in Far West’s clinical win

Far West United thrashed Kathmandu Knights on Thursday to keep their playoff hope alive. United were victorious by 83 runs in a must-win clash.

Inspired by the mammoth opening partnership, Far West piled up 197/4 after opting to bat first. Binod Bhandari and Hashmatullah Shahidi added 157 runs for the first wicket. Bhandari smashed 73 runs from 44 balls with six fours and five sixes, whereas Shahidi scored 76 (57 balls). Karan Kc finished the inning with an electrifying 8-ball 22 runs.

Basir Ahamad picked up three wickets for the Knights. Abinash Bohara yielded the breakthrough after a huge opening stand. 

In reply, Kathmandu were settled for 114/9 in the 20 overs. Kamal Airee coming to bat at no.9, scored the highest 20 runs. Gyanendra Malla and Sandeep Rajali scored 17 runs each, whereas Sunam Gautam added sluggish 16 runs.

For United, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Karan Kc and Durgesh Gupta took two scalps each.

Far West now needs to win the remaining two matches and rely on Biratnagar’s result to book their spot in the playoffs. Lumbini All-Stars and Janakpur Royals have already written their name in playoffs.
