Host opens tournament with win

KATHMANDU, June 20: Host CCRC ´A´ and KIST Medical College started the 4th CCRC ICC T-20 Cricket Tournament with wins on Monday. CCRC ´A´ thrashed Intensive by 134 runs while KIST defeated Pioneer by 3 wickets.

In the first match of the day, Intensive won the toss and invited CCRC to bat first.

With quick fire 71 runs from man-of-the-match Gyanendra Malla, CCRC reached a huge total of 169 runs losing only six wickets. Malla scored three boundaries and four huge sixes off 49 balls. Subash Pradhan scored 25 runs off 21 balls with a boundary.

Bibek Jha succeeded in grabbing two wickets in four overs conceding 35 runs. Pramod Shakya, Anirudh Shakya and Dhirendra Giri grabbed a wicket each.

Chasing the total of 170, Intensive was bowled out in just 35 runs off 15.4 overs. Bijay Thapa took three wickets in his 2.4 overs giving away six runs. Santosh Baral grabbed two wickets while Sanjam Regmi and Mehaboob Alam shared a wicket each.

Sabin Shrestha was the only successful batsman of Intensive as he scored 10 runs off 21 balls. None of the Intensive players were able to reach the double figure.

In another match, KIST won the toss and opted to bowl first. Pioneer was restricted at 65 runs in 17.5 overs. Man-of-the-match Shrawan Raut´s three wickets haul in four overs helped KIST restrict Pioneer at the low total. Santosh KC and Sanjeeb Kumar Jha took two wickets each while Janardan Gautam grabbed one.

Sushant Ghimire and Biraj Kafle were the highest scorers with 10 runs each.

KIST reached the target of 66 runs in just 15.2 overs losing seven wickets. Jha´s undefeated 22 runs off 28 balls guided KIST for the victory. Prabesh Karki scored 17 runs off 24 balls with a boundary. Ajay Thakur and Bijay Thakur took two wickets each for the losing side.
