Kathmandu- The International Cricket Council (ICC) picked up Nepal’s Leg Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane in their “THE FUTURE STARS – XI, PLAYERS TO WATCH FROM ICC UNDER 19 CRICKET WORLD CUP 2016”, that also included 10 more players from different countries.
Lamichhane took 14 wickets in six games played with an average of 17.07, including a hat-trick against Ireland making him the first Nepali bowler and fifth in the world to make a hat-trick in U-19 world cup. He was the second highest wicket taker of the tournament just behind Namibia’s Fritz Coetzee who topped the list with 15 scalps in 6 matches with an average of 15.93.
From not being part of the original Nepal team that secured qualification for the World Cup, Lamichhane has come a long way. He ended the tournament as the second highest wicket-taker, his legspin yielding him 14 wickets in six outings with a best of 5 for 27. That included a hat-trick against Ireland as he became the fifth bowler in the history of the tournament to achieve that feat. He will lead this side in the spin department.
Among the eleven players, Lamichhane and Rory Anders (Ireland) are the only players to be featured from Associate Countries.
The other players includes, Gidron Pope (West Indies), Jack Burnham (England), Shimron Hetmyer ( West Indies), Sarfaraz Khan (India), Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka), Hasan Mohsin (Bangladesh), Mehedy Hassan Miraz (Bangladesh), Shamran Springer (West Indies), Alzarri Joseph (West Indies) and Mayank Dagar as 12th man from India.
