Fairfax – Nepal is on the verge of reaching yet another historical milestone in the ongoing World Cup League Division Two cricket championship in Namibia.
They are a match away from the ultimate prize, following their spectacular win over host Namibia. With three straight wins, they are well positioned to end their Africa challenge on a high note.
I understand, it’s easier said than done. So far our cricketers have proven that success comes through relentless collective efforts. They must show the same passion, effort and desire to prevail in the final game.
Given the situation, the clash against Kenya might just prove out to be the most high-pressure game for Nepal. They must not get carried away with their three –game winning streak, become complacent and lose focus.
As such, it is a high stakes game for Nepal. Winning, therefore, is everything and losing is out of question.
It is imperative that they go into the match relaxed, confident, and then go full throttle against the opposition, translating the strong momentum into another memorable victory.
It is very true that nothing can be taken for granted not until the final ball is bowled or until the fall of the last wicket.
Undoubtedly, Nepal start favorites against Kenya, and hopefully they live up to billing.
Once again the bowlers hold key to the team’s success. They must replicate their form of the last three games in order to take the pressure off the struggling batsmen.
Whether they bowl first or later, they will need to be at their very best to secure victory.
Everyone agrees that Nepal’s batting continues to be brittle and shaky. With few exceptions, most specialist batsmen have struggled and failed to come to grips with the pitch.
Skipper Khadka along with his deputy Malla and Kami carry the burden of the innings as they attempt to keep the winning streak going.
Khadka for the second straight match batted magnificently. His endeavor was rightly recognized with “Man of the match” award , for the second time in the competition
He batted with ease and lots of authority. His 64 off 56 runs, which included 6 fours and 3 sixes had class written all over it.
He enjoyed good support from Malla who scored a defiant 31. A 53 run partnership for the third wicket between the captain and his deputy saved the day for Nepal, despite a late fight back by the Namibian bowlers.
Full credits goes to the bowlers for out of the ordinary performance. They restricted the home team to a paltry 142. They fired on all cylinders, and quick accurate bowling from youngsters Karan and Sompal had the batsmen pinned down.
Speedster Karan had another big outing and was pick of the bowlers. Such was his dominance, accuracy and pace that he took 3 wickets for just 12 runs in 6.1over. An incredible performance, indeed.
On the other hand, though, Sompal proved expensive giving away 41 runs for his 2 wickets in 10 over, he struck at crucial moments to check the run flow.
I am looking forward to a great performance by Nepal and hopefully another great win.
