Nepal register a humungous win over Qatar

Nepalese Women’s U-19 cricket team are off to a flying start in the Asian region’s qualification for ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup 2023. Nepalese Women’s U-19 thrashed Qatar Women’s U-19 by 79 runs in the first match of the tournament.

Qatar were wrapped up for mere 38 runs in 15.4 overs whilst following a total of 118 runs. Despite a decent 33 runs opening stand, Qatar were able to add just 5 runs for the next 9 wickets. Openers Saachi Dhadwal and Shrutiben Kamleshbhai Rana scored 14 runs each whereas the other 7 batters were dismissed for a duck. Shristi Jaisi took 3 wickets while Anu Kadayat, Kritika Marasini, and Sneha Mahara pocketed 2 wickets each.

Earlier, Nepal posted 117 runs from the allotted 20 overs losing 3 wickets. Kiran Kunwar was dismissed cheaply before Anjali Bishowkarma left the crease scoring 11 runs. Likewise, Sanu Rajbanshi and Ashma Pulami Magar scored sluggish 21 and 32 runs respectively. Shristi Jaisi added a quick 23 at the end to help Nepal post a good total. Qatar bowled 29 extras throughout the inning.

Shristi Jaisi was adjudged as player of the match for her exceptional all-round performance.

Nepal will play their next match against U.A.E on Saturday. The team finishing on top of the table will book the ticket to the Inaugural Women’s u-19 world cup to be held in South Africa in January 2023.
