Nepal’s Star Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane unsold in IPL

Nepal’s Star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane went unsold at the Indian Premier League 2021 players auction on Thursday.

Lamichhane, who had earlier represented Delhi Capitals at the IPL, had registered for a base price of INR 40 Lakh at the auction but didn’t find buyers, hence will not be part of the 2021 season of the IPL.

20-year-old legspinner was part of the Delhi Capitals for the last three seasons. Lamichhane was picked by Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 20 Lakhs in 2018 has been retained for the last two seasons. He picked up three wickets in the first season. Likewise, in 2019, he appeared in six matches and bagged eight wickets.

However, in 2020, he didn’t make it to playing XI, as the spin-heavy Delhi team had the likes of India’s Ravichandra Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Amit Mishra, who were the favorites for the team management.

On January 20, Delhi Capitals released Sandeep Lamichhane along with five players and retained 19 players.

Lamichhane has played nine matches and picked 13 wickets at an economy of 8.34. In the IPL, he has the best figures of 3/36. He played three matches for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018 and six games in the next year.

Alongside Lamichhane, there were among the big superstars who went unsold at the auction. Hard-hitting batters, Aaron Finch (Base price 1cr), Jason Roy (2cr), Alex Hales (1.5 cr), Corey Anderson (0.75 cr), and Shaun Marsh (1.5 cr), all went unsold.
