Ruturaj Gaikwad hits the limelight in the cricketing world by doing something very unexpected. Gaikwad created a world record, smashing seven sixes in an over.
Playing for Maharastra against Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the second quarterfinal match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List-A), Gaikwad smashed seven sixes and collected 43 runs off Shiva Singh in the 49th over of the match. Singh bowled a no ball in the fifth ball of the over, and Gaikwad sent it for a maximum too.
The 25-year-old becomes the first batter in limited overs cricket to score 43 runs in a single over. He remained unbeaten on 220 from 159 balls, smacking ten fours and 16 sixes. Despite Gaikwad’s scintillating knock, Maharastra finished on 330/5 from the allotted 50 overs.
Pune-born opening batter Gaikwad also won Orange Cap in IPL 2021, playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
A week ago, Tamil Nadu’s Narayan Jagadeesan broke a 20-year-old List A record after scoring 277 against Arunachal Pradesh.
