Scientific School win cricket title

BIRGUNJ: An all-round performance from Mohammad Atahar guided Scientific Education Academy of Region-VII (Janakpurdham) to 42-run victory over Happy Land Secondary School of Region-I (Biratnagar) in the final of the Boost Inter-school National Cricket Tournament here at the Narayani Stadium today.

Batting first, Scientific scored 125-7 in the rain-hit 15-over-a-side match and packed Happy Land for 83 in 13.1 overs. Atahar scored an unbeaten 25 runs, while Prabesh Shah added 22 and Sushant Mandal and Gopal Singh contributed 20 runs each for Scientific. Rohit Singh picked three and Yugal Kishor Chaudhary claimed two wickets for Happy Land.

In reply, man-of-the-final Atahar picked five wickets to destroy Happy Land innings. Maya Nanda Chaudhary (23) and Ifatkar Alam (16) were the only Happy Land players to score in double digits.

Mohammad Arif Ansari, who scored 61 runs and took seven wickets, of Vidhya Sadan Secondary School of Region-II (Birgunj) was declared the best player of the tournament, while Mohammad Rahul Ansari (107 runs) of the Birgunj-based School was declared the best batsman. Bibek Singh of Happy Land was named the best bowler.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Regional Cricket Committee Daud Ansari said they would punish the Janakpur-based Scientific School and snatch the trophy if were found to have fielded over-aged players. Vidhya Sadan School had filed a protest against Scientific after their 22-run semi-final loss accusing them of including over-aged players in their squad.
