Senior National Cricket Tournament from Sunday

Kathmandu- The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has released the dates of Senior National Cricket Tournament 2015 amid a press release on Friday. The 16-day tournament will run from March 8 (tomorrow) to March 23.

The tournament will kick off in Kathmandu in two venues: Pulchowk Engineering Ground and Tribhuwan University Ground. 11 teams which includes 9 regional teams and 2 departmental teams (Nepal APF and Nepal Tribhuwan Club) will participate in the tournament. For the first time, senior national tournament won’t have sponsors and will totally run with CAN’s money. CAN couldn’t lure any sponsors for the tournament after previous sponsors, Pepsi and Standard Chartered Bank’s agreement run out this year.

This time this tournament will serve as selection tournament for the upcoming ICC World Cricket League. 50 best players will be picked up the competition which will then be divided into three teams. These three teams along with U-19 team will play double round robin league and again the best players from the league will be picked up for the national squad. Nepal’s head coach, Pubudu Dassanayeke, CAN’s acting president, Uttam Karmacharya, and U-19 national coach, Jagat Tamata will be in the three-member selection committee.

Nepal APF faces R-3 Kathmandu in the first match at the TU Ground on Sunday.
