Kathmandu – On this Day 1996, the sixth of September Nepal made its debut at ACC’s tournaments playing against Bangladesh in the Pepsi ACC Trophy. Its been exactly 18 years since then and Nepal Cricket has offered a lot to cheer for looking back.
How many tournaments can a country win in 18 years? One, two, five or seven?? Wll, Nepal has won unmatchable 13 titles including including four consecutive ACC U-19 tites, one U-19 plate championship, two ACC U-15 titles, one each ACC U-16 and U-17 titles, ICC world Cricket league Division three, four and five titles and one ACC Elite Trophy.
It has been a remarkable 18 years for Nepal at international-initially at the junior level and most recently at senior level too. Nepal was tagged “giant killers” at the U-19 World Cups as they won as many as 6 matches against the U-19 side of Test nation-the most by any associate or affiliate at U-19 level. With their recent victory in ACC U-16 Premier League Nepal became only nation to win all ACC youth level tournaments.
Nepal is the only associate nation to have won the plate championship in U-19 World Cup achieving this feat defeating New Zealand in the Plate Championship final in 2006.
