CAN recommends Monty Desai as Nepal national cricket team head coach

Monty Desai has been proposed as the new men’s national cricket team coach by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

CAN has forwarded the paperwork to the National Sports Council, suggesting Desai as the head coach (NSC). However, the file has not yet been sent to the Sports Ministry, which must approve CAN’s decision of hiring him.

Nepal is hosting Scotland and Namibia in a Tri-series under ICC CWC League 2 from 14th February onwards. The list of 28 players called up for the closed camp was also unveiled on Friday. However, the coach is yet to be confirmed.

The Cricket Association of Nepal opened the vacancy on the first week of January 2023 after Manoj Prabhakar resigned from the role on December 15, 2022.

Desai has good knowledge of Nepal cricket, having worked as worked with the Nepal national team for the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers. He also worked as the batting consultant of Nepal’s U-19 side for the ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament back in 2017.
