Day 5: Airee & Malla shines: Birgunj & APF enter Semis

Kathmandu – Region No. 4 (Bhairahawa), Region 2 (Birgunj) alongwith Department Clubd – APF and Army won their respective matches on Day 5 of the Pepsi Standard-Chartered National Twenty20 Tournament in Kathmandu today.

Region-4 (Bhairahawa) Vs Region-6 (Baitadi)
Region 6 (Baitadi) won the toss and elected to bowl first in the overcast condition here at Tribhuvan University Ground. Region 4 (Bhairahawa) managed to score 138/6 in their 20 overs despite the damp condition in the morning. Wicketkeeper/Batsman Prakash K.C. made his half century (52 off 36 balls) while Amit Shrestha contributed with 29 runs.  Basant Khatri took two wickets for Baitadi.

Meanwhile, during the chase, run a ball 48 from wicketkeeper Mahendra Chand, Baitadi couldnot  help Baitadi to chase the target and stopped for 113/9 in their 20 overs. Fazlur Rehman Khan’s 3-25 from his four overs & Moinuddin Khan’s 2-17 helped Bhairahawa to win the match against Baitadi and secured 2 valuable points. They are currently 3rd in the Group A with 4 points.

APF Club Vs Region-1 (Biratnagar)
Half centuries from Pradeep Airee (63 off 45 balls) and Gyanendra Malla (63 off 24 balls) helped Armed Police Force to put 194 runs in their 20 overs against Region 1 in the second match after winning the toss at TU Ground today. Airee smashed 7 fours and 2 sixes while Malla was fired up smashing 5 sixes along with 4 fours. Similarly,  Skipper Paras Khadka and Sharad Vesawkar scored 25 off 9 balls and 21 off 10 balls respectively.

Later in the chase, Biratnagar couldn’t capitalized on Sunny Pun’s 62 off 42 balls innings, a lonely hand during the chase and lost the match by massive 86 runs. Shakti Gauchan was pick of the bowler for APF as he took 3 wickets. Bhuwan Karki & Dipendra Chaudary grabbed 2 wickets while Paras Khadka & Amrit Bhattarai had wicket a piece. Basanta Regmi went wicketless. With his bombastic inning of 63 runs, Gyanendra Malla was awarded with Man of the Match.

With this win, APF Club became the first team to reach the semifinal of the National Twenty 20 this year with 9 points. They played 5 matches and won 4 of them while one match had No Result.
