Delhi Capitals release Sandeep Lamichhane

Kathmandu – India Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals on Wednesday confirmed that it has released Nepal’s Star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane ahead of the 2021 IPL.

According to the ESPNCricinfo, it is understood that Delhi Capitals decided to release Lamichhane as he failed to get a game last year.

In 2018, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) picked Lamichhane for the base price of the Indian Rupee 20 lakh (approx US $27,000), making Lamichhane the first cricketer from Nepal to land an IPL contract.

It was a dream come true for Nepali fans and cricketers to see their star player in cricket’s biggest league in the World.

He played three games in his first season and picked up three wickets.

Likewise, in 2019, he got six matches and claimed eight scalps.

However, in 2020, he didn’t get any chance to feature in playing XI, as the spin-heavy Delhi team had the likes of India’s Ravichandra Ashwin, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra, who were the favorites for the team management.

Delhi Capitals have retained 19 players which include six overseas players and released six players which included India’s Mohit Sharma & Tushar Deshpande and overseas players like Keemo Paul(West Indies), Alex Carey(Australia) and Jason Roy(England).
