ICC/Melbourne – International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced ICC Awards 2015 on Wednesday.
Australian Captain Steve Smith won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year 2015 along with ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and became the fourth Australian player and 11th overall to grab the award. South Africa’s AB De Villiers was named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year; Faf du Plessis bagged ICC T20I Performance of the Year award for his 56-ball 119 against the West Indies in Johannesburg.
Similarly, Meg Lanning (Australia) was adjudged ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year; Stafanie Taylor (West Indies) was declared ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.
Josh Hazlewood (Australia) bagged the Emerging Cricketer of the year whilst New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum scoops the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. UAE’s Khurram Khan won ICC Associate/Affiliate Cricketer of the year.
Likewise, Richard Kettleborough grabbed the ICC Umpire of the Year (David Shepherd Trophy) and completed a hat-trick.
Earlier this month, Steve Smith was also named in the ICC Test and ODI Teams of the Year, which were picked by the ICC selection panel that was headed by former India captain and Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee Anil Kumble.
The player awards were judged by a voting academy, which was entirely independent of the ICC. The voting period ran from 18 September 2014 to 13 September 2015:
