Nepal’s ICC rankings have slipped in the new T20I rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

Nepal slipped from 14th to 15th position in the latest MRF ICC Ranking after Namibia surpassed them.

Nepal’s chances of direct qualification for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 significantly decreases after the demotion. 12 among 20 teams will get a direct ticket to West Indies and the USA, for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The top-eight teams from the 2022 edition in Australia, along with the two hosts, the West Indies and the United States, will automatically qualify for the league phase of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The remaining places, via the automatic qualification route, will be taken by the next two highest-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of 14 November 2022.

The top three teams based on their ICC rankings as of the cut-off date will automatically qualify if only the West Indies finish in the top eight of the 2022 edition. The top two teams in the ICC rankings will qualify for the 2024 edition if the West Indies do not finish in the top eight.

The remaining eight spots will be fulfilled after the qualification process. Two each team from Asia, Africa, and Europe will book their place in the tournament while one each will be selected from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier.

Currently, Scotland (16), Oman (17), and the Netherlands (18) are behind Nepal in the ranking whereas Ireland (12), UAE (13), and Namibia (14) are ahead. India is on top of the list followed by England and Pakistan.

Nepal national cricket team is currently in Kenya for five-match T20I series and three One Day matches. Nepal is 2-1 ahead in the T20I series.
