Nepal to host a Tri-series ahead of T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced Team Nepal will play a Tri-series against UAE and Hong Kong in preparation for T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers. The series is set to be played from October 17 to 26 in Kathmandu.

Nepal will compete against other seven Asian teams in the qualifier tournament to be held in Nepal itself. The tournament’s stakes are high, as the top two teams will secure a spot in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The confirmation regarding the series came through an announcement made during today’s meeting by the recently elected committee. Currently, the Nepalese team are in China for Asian Games Cricket. They will play the first match against Mongolia on 27th September.

More important decisions were made in the meeting:

  • Prime Minister Cup will be played in round robin format where the semifinal will be a two-day match and the final will be a three-day match.
  • The Nepal Premier League (NPL) will be conducted in March/April 2024 by CAN itself
  • Yearly Cricket Award
  • A five-member working committee including President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Vice President Roshan Singh, Secretary Paras Khadka, Treasurer Padam Bahadur Khadka and Memner Diwakar Ghale.
