SAAF School cricket Series ready to hit the floor

Kathmandu- SAAF School Cricket Series, a initiative of Students Athletic Activities Foundation(SAAF), is ready to get started from 31st December to January 9 at Army School Ground, Bhaktapur.

The competition named as ““WAI WAI SCHOOL CRICKET SERIES 2014” will feature eight teams, involving 112 young kids in 20 different matches. The 20 over tournament will see 20 matches played in a Pool Play / Playoff format intended to provide maximum opportunity to the participating teams. Each teams will get a chance to play a minimum of five matches.

The eight teams as confirmed by the organizers are DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati School (as DAV Kiwis), Galaxy Public School (as Galaxy Jaguars), Kathmandu International School (as KIS Rhinos), Nepal Police School (as Police Ncops), Rajan Memorial International School (as Rajan Warriors), Sainik Awashiya Mahavidyalaya A (as Sainik Sharks), Sainki Awashiya Mahavidyalaya B (as Sainki Seals), and Mount Everest School ( as Burners).

The sole objective of the tournament is to provide fair and safe opportunities for students to compete on the playing field in an equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate competitive athletic activities into education, so that the educational experience of the student is paramount.

SAAF also aims to develop a sporting culture at High School and University levels. “We want to create a proper structure and culture of sports in Nepal, particular at High School and University level like in the US and other European Countries”, said Harsh Kandoi, the tournament coordinator.

“We are focused on the School Cricket Series currently, but after its completion we would definitely love to reach higher levels and host other sports”, Harsh said further.
