Sandeep Lamichhane unpicked in Big Bash League

Sandeep Lamichhane

Nepal national cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane is unpicked by any of the franchises in the first-ever Big Bash League (BBL) draft. Hence, Sandeep is set to miss Australia’s major franchise league for the first time since debuting in December 2018.

Lamichhane who was grouped in the gold category also had a chance of retention from Hobart Hurricanes, however, he went unpicked. Hobart Hurricanes drafted three Pakistani players, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Asif Ali.

For the first instance, the overseas players in BBL were selected via a draft, and Global T20 superstars like Andre Russel, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Faf Du Plessis, and Jason Roy were left out.

It is believed Sandeep Lamichhane along with these megastars were snubbed from the draft as the teams were more focused on players who would be available for the whole tournament as these players are already contracted in high-paying International League T20. Sandeep Lamichhane is already signed by Desert Vipers in an inaugural edition of ILT20.

Since debuting for Melbourne Stars in December 2018, Nepal’s spinning sensation has picked up 48 BBL wickets in 43 matches with a healthy average and strike rate of 24.71 and 7.42 respectively. Later in 2020, Lamichhane was signed by Hobart Hurricanes after two good seasons with the Stars.
