Sydney Thunder has been bowled out for the record-lowest score in T20 cricket in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), Australia’s major franchise league. Adelaide Strikers bowled out Thunders for 15 runs in just 5.5 overs to register a massive 124 runs victory at Sydney.
Thunder also had the humiliating record of scoring the lowest-ever total in professional men’s T20 cricket history. The prior low was 21, by Turkey against the Czech Republic in August 2019. It is also the lowest total in BBL, surpassing Melbourne Renegades’ 57.
Five batters were dismissed for a duck, with none of the batters reaching the double-digit mark. Brendan Doggett, batting at No.10, top-scored for the side with inside-edged four runs which was hugely cheered by the local crowd.
Birthday boy Henry Thornton had a surreal present grabbing a fifer in just 2.5 overs conceding three runs (2.5-1-3-5). Wes Agar also picked up four wickets, sharing six runs.
Earlier, Strikers posted 139 after opting to bat first. Chris Lynn and de Grandhomme made 36 and 33 runs, respectively. Afghanistan’s speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up three wickets for 20 runs.
Adelaide Strikers: 139/9 (20 overs)
Sydney Thunders: 15 all out (5.5 overs)
