3 banks secure first three quarterfinal spots

Nabil Bank, Bank of Asia and Bank of Kathmandu booked the quarterfinal spots in the 13th Soaltee Crown Plaza Super Sixes cricket tournament on Thursday while Nagarik and Civil Bank entered pre-quarterfinal round.

Nabil defeated KIST Bank by six wickets in the pre-quarterfinal match played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

Nabil Bank restricted KIST Bank at 63/2 in allotted five overs and met the target in 4.3 overs without losing a wicket. Raju KC scored 31 runs for KIST Bank but Laxman Charan Joshi struck 32 runs off 14 balls and Amit Pokhrel hit 24 runs off 13 balls to overshadow it.

Bank of Asia thrashed defending champion Nepal SBI Bank by six wickets to book quarterfinals. SBI put up 45/3 in five overs as Robert Shrestha contributed unbeaten 20 runs and monish Kumar Shrestha scored 19 runs.

Ayush Malla took two wickets to restrict SBI to a low score. In reply, Diwash Singh Thakuri scored 32 runs of 12 balls to seal the victory for Bank of Asia in 3.2 overs.

Likewise, Bank of Kathmandu edged past Prime Life Insurance by five wickets to reach last eight. Prime put up 52/5 in five overs.

Mandil Adhikari top scored with 20 runs for Prime. Bank of Kathmandu met the target in four overs losing just a wicket. Pramath Shah contributed unbeaten 28 runs for the bank.

Meanwhile, Civil Bank and Nagarik reached the pre-quarterfinal emerging as the best loosers during the group stage of the tournament. Civil lost to KIST Bank in its last group stage match by six wickets but turned lucky to reach the second round.

Nagarik, who had lost to Himalayan Bank and Nepal Bank, defeated Pakistan Embassy by 10 runs in its last group stage match and entered to the next round with best run rates among losing sides in the tournament that featured 28 teams in seven groups.
