6th Chief of Army Staff Running Cricket Tournament Kicks Off

Kathmandu/Cricnepal: 6th Chief of Army Staff running Cricket tournament started off today, at Army School Ground Bhakatapur with wins for hosts Sainik Aawasiya Maha Vidhyalaya(SAMV) and Rajan Memorial School(RMIS) in the Pool A matches played today.

SAMV vs. Deepjyoti- Pool A

In the first match of the tournament  host utterly smashed  Deepjyoti by 147 runs. The finalist of the Wai- Wai U-16 Indo Nepal Cricket Cricket Tournament, SAMVwhen put into bat obliged with a handsome 191 runs of the 20 overs losing only 5 wickets. Niramal Bastakoti top scored for SAMV with 47 n.o. with 5 fours and a six, of 41 balls, Niraj Shrestha made healthy 31 of 22 balls.Prashant Shrestha and Gunjan Yadav contributed with 23 and 16. Chasing a mammoth total Deepjyoti were knocked over for  mere 44 runs in the second ball of seventeenth over,  thanks  to an exceptional bowling display by Player of the match Prashant Shrestha who picked  5 wickets in four overs giving away only 7 runs.

NPS vs. RMIS- Pool B

In the other match Rajan Memorial School defeated Nepal Police School (NPS) by four wickets. Batting first NPS could manage to get only 99 runs before getting bowled out in the eighteenth over. Sujan Chapagain Asim Shrestha, Vivek Kumar Yadav and Janak GM each picked up 2 wickets for Rajan Memoril. Bhupendra Oli top scored for NPS with 16 runs. Chasing 100,  Gyabit Gurung guided RIMS to victory in the final over top scoring with 18 n.o. of just 16 balls. Promod Khatri also had scored 18 for RIMS before getting out. RIMS’s Asim Shrestha was declared the man of the match.

8 teams are participating in the tournament. Teams are divided into two pools; SAMV, Deep Jyoti, Galaxy and EPS placed in Pool A , and NPS, RIMS,GCA and  School placed in Pool B. Two teams from each pool will qualify for the semi final which is set to Brihaspati be held on 6th December, the date for the final is yet to be decided.
