Aadil Alam and four others cleared of spot-fixing charges in Nepal T20 League

Adil Alam (Ansari), along with four others, has been cleared of accusations of spot-fixing during the Nepal T20 League 2022/23, citing a lack of sufficient evidence. This paves the way for Adil to make a comeback to domestic cricket and the national team.

Aadil has represented Nepal in six ODIs and eight T20Is. He was regarded as a valuable asset in T20 cricket because of his role as a fast-bowling all-rounder and a finisher capable of playing impactful, aggressive innings. However, in January 2023 Aadil was arrested for a spot-fixing charge and was banned from national team and domestic cricket.

On Monday, a solitary bench presided over by Kathmandu District Court Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel ruled that Aadil Alam, Mehboob Alam, Nitesh Shah, Nabin Kandel and Ravi Marphi were cleared of spot-fixing charges.

Aadil Alam and former star all-rounder Mehboob Alam were arrested by the Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). Ansari played for Janakpur Royals, while Alam was not part of any team in the Nepal T20 League. Aadil’s big no-ball was negatively famous throughout the tournament, whereas it is said that Alam played a big role in fixing staying in India.

During the investigation, the CIB named 12 suspects and forwarded them to the Kathmandu Public Prosecutor’s Office. However, charges were only filed against 5 individuals, while two people absconded. Others were not charged because their whereabouts were unknown

On February 23, Aadil along with Mehboob and Nitesh were released on three lakh bail.
