Aasif Sheikh becomes the first Nepalese batter to score a half-century in Asia Cup

Kathmandu – Aasif Sheikh became the first-ever Nepalese batter to hit a half-century in the Asia Cup.

Sheikh achieved the feat against India at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

The opener was dropped by Kohli in the second over off Mohammad Siraj. Sheikh capitalized on the life and went on to make a crucial 58 runs from 97 balls with eight boundaries. However, he was caught by Virat Kohli off Mohammad Siraj in the 30th over.

The Nepalese openers also added 65 runs, with Bhurtel adding 38 runs from 25 balls. Nepal posted 230 runs on the board before being bowled out in 48.2 overs.

Sompal Kami was impressive with a composed 48 runs innings from 56 balls while Dipendra Singh Airee also added valuable 25-ball 29 runs. Gulshan Jha also contributed 23 runs.

For India, Mohammad Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each.

Nepal were bowled out for a mere 104 runs against Pakistan in the tournament opener.
