APF hammer Baluwatar Club

KATHMANDU: Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club entered the final of the Madan Bhandari Memorial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament with an eight-wicket hammering of Baluwatar Club here at the TU Stadium today.

The third victory meant, APF accumulated six points from three matches to finish as Group ‘A’ winners featuring four teams. In a Group ‘B’ match, opener Subash Pradhan scored a fluent half-century as Yangal Club dispatched Kantipur City College (KCC) by 93 runs.

Electing to bat first, Baluwatar could muster 69-7 in 20 overs before the departmental team overcame the total losing two wickets in 12.3 overs.

No 3 batsman Suman Uday top-scored for Baluwatar with 13 runs. No other Baluwatar batsmen were able to score in double figures. Their inning was also bolstered with 12 sundries. Man-of-the-match Basanta Regmi was the pick of the APF bowlers with an economical figures of 2-2 from his four overs. Paceman Amrit Bhattarai took 3-19, while Rom Shrestha grabbed one wicket.

In reply, opener Paresh Lohani — who was dropped twice on four and 16 — scored 26 off 28 deliveries that included four fours while skipper Paras Khadka scored an unbeaten 20.

Khadka, who struck four fours in his 14-ball knock, closed out the match in style hitting Suman Shre-stha for a six. Rupesh Shrivastav (2-17) picked up both APF wickets to fall.

In another match, Yangal scored a mammoth 187-6 in 20 overs and restricted KCC for 94-7. Wicketkeeper-batsman Subash, who was later adjudged man-of-the-match, scored 79 runs off 41 balls with 12 fours and a six. He put on 73-run opening wicket partnership with Sudhir Maharjan (20).

Ujjwal Thapa contributed 25, while Thupten Lama chipped in with unbeaten 13-ball 23 with two fours and a six. Yangal innings was also bolstered with 31 sundries. Pankaj Sinha (29-3) and Rabindra Dhakal (32-3) grabbed three wickets apiece for KCC.

In reply, Santosh Kumar Shah fought a lonely battle hitting six fours in his 43-ball 37. No other KCC batsmen managed to score in double figures. Ram Pradhan finished with figures of 2-18 while Rajesh Pulami and Uday Thapa bagged one wicket apiece. Three KCC batsmen were run out.

On Wednesday, Balu-watar Club will take on New Vision Club, while Yangal Club will meet Rudramati Club at the same venue.
