The Australian cricket team has clinched the title of World Test Championship 2023. The Aussies emerged victorious against India in the final held at The Oval, London, to win the title of the second edition.
Australia has now won ICC Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and World Test Championship. They are the first nations to do so. Meanwhile, India ended up as runner-up twice after losing the final of both editions.
India needed 280 runs from Day 5 with seven wickets in hand with Kohli (44) and Rahane (20) in the middle. Boland dismissed well-set Kohli and Jadeja for a duck in the same over to swing the momentum towards Australia. Starc then dismissed Rahane while Lyon wrapped up India’s tail to ensure a 209-run victory.
Australia put up a massive score of 469 runs after being invited to bat first. Travis Head scored an attacking ton (163), while Steve Smith Scored a marathon 121.
Australia gained a 173-run lead after wrapping up India for 296. Ajinkya Rahane scored a fighting 89, whereas Shardul Thakur contributed a crucial 51.
Pat Cummins declared Australia’s Inning for 270/8, setting a target of huge 444 runs for Rohit Sharma’s co. Meanwhile, India were bowled out to 234 runs.
Travis Head was adjudged as player of the final match for his terrific century.
New Zealand were the winner of the first edition, defeating India in the final held at The Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.
