Bagmati defeat Gandaki in the U-19 tournament opener despite Arjun Kumal’s brisk effort

Bagmati Province has started the U-19 national tournament with a win against Gandaki. Uttam Magar and Yogesh Bhat’s vigorous half-century helped Bagmati register a hefty 74 runs win.

Invited to bat first at TU Cricket Ground, Bagmati posted 293 runs before being bowled out in 48.1 overs. Uttam Magar scored 87 runs from 70 balls and shared 77 runs with Yogesh Bhat for the fifth wicket. Bhat also scored 52 runs from 42 balls before Omkar Yadav added a quick 37. Number 10 batter Abishek Koirala whacked 14-balls 32 with three sixes and two fours at the end.

Nirtesh Giri and Sudip Aryal picked up three wickets each for Gandaki.

Following the huge target, Gandaki were wrapped up for 219 in 45.4 overs. None of the batters could do any special apart from Arjun Kumal. The opener scored 98 runs with nine fours and one six. The next highest runs came from the extras (36).

Ashok Paudel was the pick of a bowler for Bagmati grabbing three wickets. Omkar Yadav, Pratik Shrestha and Sakriya Karki also bagged a couple of wickets each.

Uttam Magar was adjudged as player of the match for his terrific knock.

Karnali and Sudurpaschim will be battling at TU Ground on Thursday’s fixture whereas Gandaki and Province-1 face each other at Mulpani.
