Balkumari claim title

KATHMANDU:
Balkumari College of Chitwan claimed the Martyr Dil Bahadur Ramtel Memorial Running Cup Cricket Tournament defeating Kantipur Hotel Management College (KHMC) by 22 runs here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today.

Electing to bat first, after skipper Jeevan Kumar Mahara won the toss, Balkumari scored 110-4 in their allotted 15 overs and sent KHMC packing for 88 with two balls to spare. The match was reduced to 15 overs.

Balkumari made a flying start with Naresh Giri (40) and wicketkeeper batsman Sagar Bhattarai (26) putting on 70 runs within 10 overs. Naresh hit two sixes and as many fours in his 36-ball knock, while Sagar struck a boundary in his run-a-ball knock.

Rabin Gurung scored a quick fire 24 not out off 14 balls hitting three boundaries. Rupesh Karki took 2-13 for KHMC, while Prem Bahadur Chauhan and Basanta KC claimed one wicket apiece.

In reply, Subendu Pandey top scored for KHMC with 21-ball 32 that included three fours and a six, while skipper Rahul Kunwar (15) and Rupesh (14) were the only other KHMC batsmen to score in double figures.

Man-of-the-match Amrit Kumar Shrestha claimed 4-15 to guide Balkumari safely to victory. Naresh picked up two, while Amit Poudel and Sushil Thapa grabbed one each.

Balkumari received Rs 50,000, while KHMC pocketed Rs 25,000. Abhishek Sapkota of KHMC won the man-of-the-series and best bowler awards, while his skipper Rahul was declared the best batsman.
