Beach cricket in Kurintaar

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Shangri-la Cricket Academy is organizing Ncell Beach Cricket 2011 in association with Ncell from February 25 to March 5 at the Riverside Springs Resort, Kurintaar.

The event will feature cricket tournament in two categories including inter-organization and inter-bank, stated Aamir Akhatra, the director of the academy amidst a press meet in the capital on Wednesday.

In total, 36 teams will compete in the event. Inter-organization tournament will be held on February 25 and 26 and Inter-bank will be held on March 4 and 5.

According to the organizers, the event aims to promote domestic tourism. Actress Manisha Koirala is the goodwill ambassador of the event.

Ncell will provide logistic support for the promotional campaign. “We will provide enough support to conduct the tournament,” said Mansur Khamidov, the chief commercial office of Ncell, adding that such event would play a vital role in establishing harmony between various organizations and the participants.

Speaking on the occasion, actress Koirala said she was highly interested in promoting cricket in Nepal. “We have favorable venues to create good pitches in Nepal and we can produce fast bowlers of international standard,” she said.
